Alaskan Malamutes have a naturally dominant, and stubborn personality, yet are eager to please.

Malamutes are easily bored.

If kept in the house they should not be left alone unsupervised unless fully trusted as an adult. And that means at least one year of age or older.

I realize it is very easy to forget because they are so big, but they are still babies under a year of age. They are puppies and will chew on just about anything including wood, sheetrock, furniture, cabinets and anything they might fancy. Be aware that many of these things can hurt your malamute if ingested. So keeping your dog in a crate or secure area is very important when not supervised.

They are also great diggers and love digging in beautiful flower gardens and sometimes even potted plants. Digging is not always a major problem but it can become a nuisance if it is done in the wrong place.

I find that homes where my pups/dogs have a playmate; Where they are run with at least a mile; Homes that do training and PUPPY CLASSES with there dogs/pups do not have these annoying problems. If adequate toys, and attention is given it should not be a problem with digging or chewing. Always remember if these things are beginning to happen most likely you are not doing enough with your Malamute.
